Additional Information
  • Quilombo Botanical Center - The Quilombo Botanical Center, considered between the 1970s and 1980s one of the best in the country due to its diversity of plants and animals, continues to carry out research work, trials, cross-breeding and adaptation of seed and plant varieties.
The adaptation of plant varieties is mainly based on the emblematic porcelain rose, ginger and various vegetables, while the seeds are those most used in agriculture in the region, such as maize, beans, peanuts, cassava, sweet potato and castor bean, among others.
The Quilombo Botanical Center also has greenhouses for seedling production, a machinery park and a water reservoir to supply the research fields.
  • Black Stones - Here it is said that the footprints of Queen N’Ginga M’Bandi and her father, King N’Gola Kiluange, are marked.
It is a place full of myths, legends, traditions and cultural values.
Due to its topographic and geomorphological characteristics, Pungo Andongo once served as a fortress for the Kings N’Gola, having been, at that time, the capital of the Kingdom of Ndongo.
The name may derive from the national Kimbundu language, in which "ma-lanji" means "the stones", a name easily justified by the gigantic rock formations located in the Pungo Andongo region, in the municipality of Cacuso.
  • Ruins of the Fortress of Pungo Andongo - They are a testament to the military and colonial history of the country.
The ruins of the Fortress of Pungo Andongo, located in the village-commune of Pungo Andongo, in the municipality of Cacuso, in the province of Malanje, Angola, are a testament to the military and colonial history of the country.
The fortress, built in 1671, served as a defense for the Portuguese stronghold and was an important center of power and influence in the region.
Today, the ruins are a place of great tourist interest, where visitors can explore the rich Angolan history and culture.
  • Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Malanje - In 1957, still during the Portuguese colonial period, the temple was elevated to Cathedral of the Diocese of Malanje.
A church built in the city of Malanje in the 19th century, during the Portuguese colonial regime, was elevated to the classification of historical-cultural heritage of the country, according to a determination of the Ministry of Culture.
The temple is recognized as “one of the most beautiful representations of religious-historical architecture” of the period.
The church began to be built in 1862, but 30 years later it was practically abandoned and destroyed, having been rebuilt between 1920 and 1929, the year in which it was finally inaugurated.
  • Musseleje Falls - Located in the province of Malanje, the Musseleje Falls are still little known as they are not part of the usual itineraries. They can thus become an alternative to the Kalandula Falls, which are usually crowded with visitors and tourists.

The Kalandula waterfalls, formerly known as Duque de Bragança, are the largest in Angola and the second largest in Africa, after the Victoria Falls, between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Victoria Falls are 1.7 km long and 108 meters high, while Kalandula Falls are 410 meters long and 105 meters high. Can you imagine the sound of the water falling from this height?
  • Cangandala National Park - Located in the municipality of Cangandala, it is the ideal place to spot a Giant Black Sable Antelope, and the surrounding areas also have suitable places for swimming.
Origin - Established as an Integral Natural Reserve on 25-05-1963

The average annual rainfall is 1350 mm and the temperature is 21.5°C.
