Church of Our Lady of Assumption of Malanje

A church built in the city of Malanje in the 19th century, during the Portuguese colonial regime, was elevated to classification as the country's historical-cultural heritage, as determined by the Ministry of Culture.

The temple is recognized as “one of the most beautiful representations of religious-historical architecture” of the time.
The church began to be built in 1862, but 30 years later it was practically abandoned and destroyed, having been rebuilt between 1920 and 1929, the year in which it was finally inaugurated.
The decree classifying the church as a historical-cultural heritage site also defines a protection zone, with local state administration bodies being responsible for “taking measures for the effective protection and enhancement” of the monument.
