Seven years later: visitehuila.com remains active, but without any institutional support

On April 3, 2019, the digital ecosystem of Hoteisangola.com took an important step in the decentralized promotion of tourism in Angola, with the launch of visitehuila.com, the second provincial portal created after the already existing experience in Benguela.

The launch of the portal marked a significant moment for the Huíla province and for all those who believe that tourism should also be shaped by local dynamics. The presentation was attended by the then Minister of Hotels and Tourism, Dr. Ângela Bragança, who traveled to Huíla to mark the occasion, bringing together institutional leaders, businesspeople, sector professionals, and media representatives in a room that quickly filled to witness the birth of a new digital platform dedicated to the province.

visitehuila.com emerged as a territorial promotion tool, bringing together information on accommodation, car rental services, points of interest, and useful content for those wishing to visit Huíla. A portal designed to support tourists, but also to give visibility to local operators.

Seven years later, it is possible to say that, within existing limitations, the portal has fulfilled its role. Thousands of users have accessed the platform, in both Portuguese and English, seeking information to plan their trips. Many have also relied on the Hoteisangola.com support line, which continues to be an essential point of user assistance.

However, there is one point that needs to be clarified: visitehuila.com has no institutional support.

The provincial portal visitehuila.com is a direct extension of Hoteisangola.com and depends 100% on its structure, team, and resources. In other words, when discussing the maintenance of the Huíla portal, we are למעשה referring to the continuous effort of Hoteisangola.com, a project that itself does not benefit from any support from provincial governments, ministries, or public entities linked to tourism.

Over the years, what has been observed is a total absence of institutional support. Neither provincial governments, central authorities, nor sector organizations have embraced platforms like this as strategic tools for tourism promotion.

And here lies one of the major weaknesses of the sector.

Projects like visitehuila.com were not created to compete with anyone. They were designed as instruments of local enhancement, as bridges between the destination and the visitor, as channels for organizing tourism information. Even so, they are often seen as competition, when in reality they should be regarded as natural partners in tourism development.

Maintaining a platform of this nature is not just about “having a website online.” It requires constant updates, responding to users, organizing information, giving visibility to operators, and building a consistent digital presence. It is continuous, demanding work and, above all, essential in a context where travel decisions almost always begin online.

It is true that a provincial portal will not, on its own, have the same reach as a national platform like Hoteisangola.com. But it is also true that it has never had the same resources, investment, or level of support. And yet, it has managed to generate impact.

This impact is reflected in the information provided, in facilitated contacts, in influenced travel decisions, and above all, in the continuous promotion of a destination like Huíla.

Seven years later, what remains is a project that continues to operate thanks to the persistence of a team that believes in the value of tourism and structured information. A project that accepted a challenge, moved forward, and today continues, even without the support and follow-up that would be expected.

Therefore, a reflection is necessary:

How many people have come to better know Huíla thanks to visitehuila.com?

Does it make sense for a tool with this level of impact to continue existing without any institutional support?

visitehuila.com remains a portal dedicated exclusively to the Huíla province. It continues to be an extension of Hoteisangola.com. But it is also an extension that carries the weight of continuity on its own.

And in light of this reality, the final question is unavoidable:

Should we continue like this? Or is it time to recognize, support, and strengthen what has already been built?
