Tiger Bay sees integrated infrastructure projects underway
Tigers Bay, in the Municipality of Iona, Namibe Province, is undergoing the construction of integrated infrastructure as part of the local development plan, which aims to create the conditions necessary to promote tourism, particularly ecotourism.
The Governor of Namibe Province, Archer Mangueira, inspected the progress of the works last Monday, 12 October, which have reached 48% physical completion.
At this stage, the project prioritises the construction of the administrative office and facilities for the Defence and Security Forces, essential infrastructure to ensure the institutional presence of the State and create conditions for the sustainable development of the locality.
Known for its unique natural features, Tigers Bay features a landscape characterised by shifting dunes, the open sea and remnants of former structures partially covered by sand.
The locality, which once housed a fishing community during the colonial period, currently has no permanent residents.
Despite its isolation, Baía dos Tigres has attracted the interest of visitors and tourists, including cruise passengers travelling through Namibe Province, establishing itself as a destination with significant potential for adventure tourism, fishing and nature appreciation.
The construction of this infrastructure is therefore part of the Government's policy to create the conditions necessary to enhance the value of this natural heritage, stimulate tourism activity and open up new prospects for economic development in the region.
