Located next to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, the new space pays tribute to the victims of political conflicts in Angola and invites visitors to explore a fundamental dimension of the country’s history.
Luanda now has a new space dedicated to national memory.
Inaugurated on October 14, 2026, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the Memorial to the Victims of Political Conflicts honors the Angolans who lost their lives in the conflicts that took place between November 11, 1975, and April 4, 2002.
Architecture with Meaning
Situated on a six-hectare site adjacent to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, the complex comprises three main elements:
The Eternal Alliance, the Hall of Memory, and the *Mulembeira* (Tree) of Reconciliation.
The building’s embrace-like form conveys a message of welcome and rapprochement, which serves as the guiding principle for this project.
According to the official presentation, the memorial is intended to be a place for commemoration, dialogue, and reconciliation—preserving the memory of the victims while imparting the value of peace to future generations.
