Black Guineafow (Agelastes niger)

The black Guineafowl is one of Africa's rarest forest birds and an emblematic species of the tropical forests in Cabinda province.

It inhabits dense primary forests, living close to the ground and moving discreetly through the vegetation in search of seeds, fallen fruit, insects, snails, and other small invertebrates.
It is distinguished by its black plumage, a head that is virtually devoid of feathers, and reddish legs.
It generally lives in small family groups and is detected more often by its vocalizations than by direct observation. Forest destruction and hunting pose the primary threats to the conservation of this species.
