Gates of the Sea

Before the construction of the Port, they were the main access point to the city, offering calm waters and a convenient direct connection to the sea, thus becoming the perfect location for the arrival and departure of people and goods.

Today, they have become privileged viewpoints over the Bay and the Port, reflecting the historical evolution of the area, and are one of the most iconic and photographed spaces along the city’s waterfront. Located next to the promenade, they have become a modern symbol of tourism, leisure, and Lobito’s historical connection to the Atlantic Ocean.
Lobito is historically known as one of the most beautiful cities on the Angolan coast, thanks to its natural bay and the famous Restinga. The Portas do Mar reinforce this maritime and contemporary identity of the city.

Many visitors consider the Portas do Mar to be one of the best places to admire the sunset in Angola, especially because of the combination of the ocean, the promenade, and the peaceful atmosphere characteristic of Lobito.
