Restinga do Lobito (Lobito sand spit)

It forms the bay of Lobito and houses part of the city of Lobito, in the province of Benguela.

About 10km long, Tip of Sand spit stretches from Longing Hill (Colina da Saudade) to The lighthouse at the end point (Farol do Ponto Final). Their opposite coastal strips are 200 to 300 meters apart.
Tip of the spit (Ponta da Restinga) is densely populated and its territory is highly valued for real estate and tourism purposes. It serves as a residence for the upper middle class of the city of Lobito.

The sand bank that forms the Sandspit of Lobito began to appear in the 17th century, due to silting caused by the tides.
Its growth was halted in the 20th century, with the construction of jetties, preventing the Lobito Bay, essential for the Port of Lobito, would close to navigation.
The Sandspit of Lobito is a true postcard of the region, with its beaches and the cooing of the sea among the casuarina trees.
Just as Ilha do Cabo is for Luanda, the Sandspit is for Lobito. It is a place that holds memories, history and natural beauty, being an essential part of the city.
