Our Lobito

Lobito is one of the municipalities in the province of Benguela, located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

The origin of the word comes from the noun "pitu", preceded by the classifying particle olu, which would become the term "olupitu", which means the "door or even the passage" that the caravans of porters, when coming down from the hills from the interior, would pass through, before reaching the "commercial square" of Catumbela.

With continued use and time, the proper name emerged, which would lose the initial letter "o", soon becoming "Lupitu" and was translated into Portuguese as "Lobito".
Lobito is a place known by those who pass by as the visiting room of the province of Benguela, but its identity is often unknown to tourists who visit the region.
The great geographical reference of the municipality is the bay of Lobito, which, together with the Lobito sandbar, were the fundamental elements for the formation and development of the port and the city.
