Caponte Mangroves

Mangroves are ecosystems made up of plants typical of flooded environments, resistant to the high salinity of the water and soil.

Few plants are able to survive in a place flooded by the sea and with little oxygen, but this does not prevent mangroves from growing in their brackish water.
The Lobito mangroves are home to large populations of crabs on their muddy bottoms.
A wide variety of fish enter the mangroves at high tide, which is why the mangroves are considered "the nurseries of the sea."

The most frequently observed birds in the Lobito mangroves are: flamingos (the symbol of the city), the Cape teal, the pelican, the kingfisher, the heron, the spoonbill, the black-winged stilt, among others.
