Slave Store - Egypt Praia

Today, the remaining structures are in ruins, but they retain great historical and symbolic value as a place of remembrance.
Egipto Praia is located northwest of Lobito, in a landscape of cliffs and palm groves near the mouth of the Balombo River (Navala Beach). Studies and visitor guides document the site and propose its integration into cultural and nature tourism itineraries.
In the local trafficking circuit, the Quintalão served to concentrate and store captives; the Loja was the trading point before eventual shipment. In terms of the historical interpretation of the territory, the complex is linked to the Fort of São Sebastião do Egito (19th century), whose presence is associated with the period of repression of the slave trade and helps to understand the strategic importance of this coastal strip.
Even in a state of ruin, the contiguity between Loja and Quintalão is clear, as mentioned in regional descriptions. On technical and guided tours, it is common to interpret the complex as a functional unit (concentration → sale → shipment), articulated with the morphology of the terrain and the proximity of the Balombo estuary.
