It rises in the Cassoco mountain range and flows into the Atlantic Ocean, south of the city of Lobito.
After a journey of 240 km, it supplies water to the city and the port of Lobito.
Its main tributaries are the Cuíva River, on the right bank, and the Cubal River, on the left bank.
