It owes its name to its imposing natural beauty, reminiscent of the beaches of Egypt, as well as its pyramid-shaped coastal cliffs.

The "Fort of São Sebastião de Egito," also known as "Forte Egito," is located on top of a hill in the town of Egito Praia, in the municipality of Lobito, Benguela province, Angola.
