Gabela Bushshrike

The Gabela Bushshrike (Laniarius amboimensis) is another bird species endemic to Angola, closely associated with the forests of the central escarpment.
It is a discreet species that often remains hidden among shrubs, climbing plants and dense vegetation. In many cases, its presence is detected first by its distinctive call and only later through direct observation.
Surveys carried out in the region recorded this bird in both primary forest and secondary forest, as well as in dense vegetation associated with previously cultivated land.
This does not mean that it can survive without forest. Some secondary forest areas still retain sufficient canopy cover, trees and vegetation to provide suitable shelter, but continued habitat degradation progressively reduces the quality of the environment on which the species depends.
