Picanço-de-Monteiro

Monteiro’s bushshrike, Malaconotus monteiri, is one of the rarest birds associated with the Angolan escarpment.
In Cumbira, it has been observed in the forest canopy, in areas of degraded secondary vegetation and in former coffee plantations where shade trees have been preserved.
Its presence demonstrates that certain traditional agricultural landscapes can retain some ecological value, particularly when they do not involve the complete removal of trees and native vegetation.
However, these environments do not replace natural forest. They function mainly as complementary habitats, ecological corridors or transition zones between patches of forest.
