Our Lady of the Hill Tourist Complex

As a tourist complex it includes a 200 meter long swimming pool, playing fields, two sports pavilions, a kart track and, as the main point of reference, the Esplanada- Chapel and Oratory of Senhora do Monte.

The attractiveness of the place is verified by the location in its surroundings of some of the main hotels in the city of Lubango.
The chapel of Senhora do Monte dates from 1919 and was restored in 1960 under the guidance of architect José Frederico Ludovice during the Esplanada-Chapel project in Senhora do Monte dated 1962.

The Esplanade-Chapel in Senhora do Monte was built to meet the need to accommodate a growing number of faithful who went on pilgrimage to the chapel.
The designed solution consists of a large enclosure, excavated into the mountainside, whose altar and stone benches are located outdoors, with a canopy measuring 21 meters in the background, a 17.6m spire, made of reinforced concrete, and a statue measuring 2.5m high and weighing around 750 kilos.

The strings surrounding the sculpture are in the form of a harp, and may symbolize the path to God and its ups and downs. The entire work was built using less noble materials, namely fiber cement tubes and the cross in galvanized tube.
The fish symbolizes the Eucharist, appearing in the center on a pillar with a triangular base, it is made of wrought iron as a central figure between Our Lady and the Cross.

But the symbolism does not end here. The image of Maria of the Esplanada-Chapel is on the same scale, as if superimposed, with the same image of Maria of the South Portico of Santa Maria de Belém of the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in Lisbon, Portugal.
Endowed with excellent accessibility and equipment, it is necessary to encourage daily use of the space and the holding of events that allow greater publicity.
