Cacimba da Chicomba

Located in the municipal headquarters commune, this water well was used to throw people who did not align with the ideals of the community during the colonial era.
According to accounts passed down by local communities over generations, the water well was used during the colonial era as a place of punishment for people considered misaligned with the principles and rules imposed by the community or by the authorities of the time. It is believed that individuals accused of disobedience, social conflicts, or behaviours seen as inappropriate were taken to this place, turning the well into a symbol of fear, discipline, and social control.

Today, the site is regarded as a tourist attraction of historical and cultural interest. Visitors who arrive at the location seek to learn about the stories associated with the well, observe the surrounding natural landscape, and better understand the traditions and events that shaped the identity of the Chicomba region.

In addition to its historical value, the Chicomba Water Well also represents a place for reflection on the colonial past and on the traditional forms of justice and community organisation that existed during that period.
