Chimbango Hill

Chimbango Hill, also known as the highest point in Bié, is 1,929.74 meters high.

It is located 75 kilometres southwest of the city of Cuito, Bié Province, and is a place of devotion for Catholic faithful.
At an altitude of 1,929.74 metres, Mount Tchimbango, also known as Morro do Chimbango, is the highest point in Bié Province and one of the most emblematic places on Angola's Central Plateau.
Located approximately 75 kilometres southwest of the city of Cuito, this mountain stands out both for its natural grandeur and for the strong spiritual significance it has carried for more than eight decades.

A destination of faith and devotion:
The site became known in 1942, when the first pilgrimage in devotion to Our Lady of Fátima took place. The following year, in 1943, the first small chapel was built and the first Mass was celebrated, marking the beginning of a sanctuary that quickly gained religious importance in the region.
Despite the interruptions following Angola's independence in 1975, the pilgrimages resumed in 1992, reaffirming Tchimbango as a centre of faith.
In 2013, the current sanctuary was inaugurated, receiving hundreds of faithful every year, particularly on May 13, the day of the celebrations in honour of Our Lady of Fátima.

Tourism and landscape:
In addition to its religious dimension, Mount Tchimbango is also a tourist destination with great potential.
Its altitude offers panoramic views over Bié Province, revealing a landscape marked by the vastness of the plateau and the mild mountain climate. It is an ideal place for hiking, nature photography and moments of contemplation, bringing spirituality and leisure together in one place.

Cultural and natural heritage:
Today, Tchimbango represents a symbol of the cultural and religious perseverance of the people of Bié. At the same time, it is one of the province's most significant geographical points of interest, positioning itself as a must-visit destination for those seeking to discover the balance between nature, history and devotion in Angola.
