Submarine Cable - THE END

The century-old building of the Cabo Submarino Station, completely destroyed by a major fire in the early hours of March 28, 2015, served as the headquarters of the provincial directorates for Culture and Family and Promotion of Women in Benguela.

Building of the former Cabo Submarino Company – this iron and wood building arrived dismantled in Benguela, coming from England.
At the beginning of the 19th century it constituted the privileged telecommunications route, linking London to Cape Twon.
It was in 1889 that telegraph cables were laid along the west African coast.
The West African Telegraph Company, in Cape Town, was connected to Namibe, Benguela and Luanda.
Four years later the cable literally went around to the world, revolutionizing communications.
Later the German School operated. It is a classified National Historic Monument.
