Chapel of Our Lady of the Navigators- Namibe

Dedicated to Our Lady of the Navigators, patron saint of fishermen and sailors, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Navigators is one of the small spiritual and scenic treasures of southern Angola, located in the fishing village of Tômbwa.

Built by the sea, this simple chapel carries a story of faith and perseverance, and is directly linked to a promise made by Frank Marques. He won a lottery prize and considered this luck as a granted blessing. As a form of gratitude, he promised to build a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of Navigators, fulfilling his promise by constructing it by the sea.
For the local community, especially the men of the sea, the place represents protection, faith, and hope in the face of the vast Atlantic Ocean.
From a visual perspective, the chapel stands out for its privileged location — often framed by the deep blue of the sea, the open sky, and the characteristic aridity of the Namibe Desert. This combination creates a poetic contrast between human faith and the raw power of nature.
On specific dates, especially those linked to maritime tradition, small celebrations and tributes may take place, reinforcing the bond between the community and the ocean.
