Kandumbo Stones

25km from Huambo, towards Bié, stands a monstrous granite mass, which was the scene of titanic struggles by Soba N'Dala, against the Portuguese colonizers; This mass is the sober natural fort of Pedras do Kandumbo.
The Huambos, previously defeated in Embala do Huambo, near Soque, and then in Pedras da Ganda and Kané, near Kaála, deposited this natural fort and the great chief N'Dala – viper – and his war commanders Kalley, Kassango , Tchipulowando and Tchinludulo, all their last hopes.
The year was 1902, and white settlers, helped by a Boer force, surrounded Kandumbo Fort; The battle lasted three days and four nights, of uninterrupted shooting, at the end of which, on September 20, 1902, Captain Teixeira Moutinho, of the colonial army, experienced the last shots from two seventy millimeter cannons, against the people.< br> The Portuguese Army, helped by the Boers, cannons and the betrayal of a Soba, who showed the besieger how to penetrate the Natural Fort, won the battle of Kandumbo.
N'Dala lay dead near the outer stockade.
N'Dala had as successors: Nondolo, Kachikwala, Xilundulo, Sambuanda and Samokoloco.
The skulls of N'Dala and his successors, with the exception of Sambuanda and Samokoloco, were reported in a triangular reliquary, which is called Kalunda.
They were rebuilt as huts of N'Dala and Tchimbanda Samakaka, with the small temple, Etambo, as well as some huts of warriors and their women.
