Mount Luvili

Morro Luvili, also known as Monte Luvili or Lubiri, is an impressive monolith located in the commune of Alto Hama, municipality of Londuimbali, in the province of Huambo, Angola. With an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters, it stands out for its grandeur and geological uniqueness.
This monolith is considered one of the largest in the world, often referred to as the second largest, behind only Mount Augustus in Australia. Mount Augustus is about 860 meters high and covers an area of 47.95 km², while Luvili Hill impresses with its height and its distinctive shape, similar to a shark's tooth.

Regarding the claim that it is the second largest monolith on Earth, it is important to clarify:

• Officially, geographical literature and international records recognize formations such as Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia as the largest or most famous monolith in the world.
• Other well-known monoliths are Peña de Bernal (Mexico) or Sugarloaf Mountain (Brazil).
• Morro do Luvili is not yet widely recorded in international sources as one of the largest monolithic formations in the world — that is, there is no official scientific or tourist confirmation that points to it as the second largest.

Geologically, Morro Luvili is a formation resulting from the erosion of an ancient volcanic intrusion, composed mainly of granite. Its massive, isolated structure makes it a notable landmark in the Angolan landscape, visible from the main road between Luanda and Huambo.
In addition to its geological importance, Morro Luvili has cultural and spiritual significance for local communities. According to local traditions, it is believed that the hill is inhabited by spirits, especially at night, and is a place of reverence and respect.
For adventure enthusiasts, climbing Luvili Hill represents a considerable challenge. The climb is technically demanding, with steep and exposed sections, requiring climbing experience and additional precautions due to the presence of local fauna, such as snakes.
