House of Slaves

The place was built by the Dutch, who used it as a magazine and, with the arrival of the Portuguese, it became the Casa dos Escravos.
It is here where many Angolan citizens coming from various parts of the territory were shipped as slaves to São Tomé and Príncipe and countries in America, with emphasis on Brazil.
In Dutch times, the Casa dos Escravos was also a military unit, where large quantities of weapons and gunpowder were stored, which were sold in the interior of the country. The place was also considered a trading point for coffee and slaves.
