Emirates takes over management of TAAG
According to an official statement distributed this Tuesday in Luanda, the agreement gives shape to a TAAG Management Contract by EMIRATES, through which the top management of the Angolan company will become mainly the responsibility of a team of executives from EMIRATES.
The contract provides for a new Governance Model for TAAG, which will be managed by a Board of Directors made up of nine members, distributed as follows: Five appointed by the Angolan Government, namely the Vice-President of the Board of Directors and four directors non-executive directors and four executive directors appointed by EMIRATES, one of whom is the chairman.
The statement also states that the day-to-day management of TAAG will be ensured by an Executive Committee, composed of the executive directors appointed by EMIRATES, namely, the President of the Executive Committee, the administrators with Commercial, Operational, Financial and Administrative portfolios.
These are joined by the Vice-President of the Board of Directors, appointed by the Angolan side.
Under the terms of the agreement, the objective is to provide TAAG with international level professional management, freeing it from effectiveness and efficiency problems that have persisted for many years, increase offer destinations for Angolan passengers, improve the service provided and raise operational and safety standards.
The purposes also include the transfer of knowledge and good practices from EMIRATES to TAGG, contributing to the training and empowerment of managers and technicians of the Angolan airline, and financially sanitizing the company Angola, apply greater rigor in all control processes, as well as reduce operating costs, through economies of scale that result from the acquisition of products and services in the EMIRATES Group network.
The press release clarifies that all objectives will be achieved without undue harm to current TAAG workers, with the intention, on the contrary, of raising their professional level and their working conditions.
To sign this Management Contract, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Transport, headed by its head, Augusto da Silva Tomás.
The delegation also included the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, Mário Domingues, the general director of the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAVIC), Carlos David, and the presidents of the Councils of Administration of TAAG and ENANA, Teixeira da Cunha and Manuel Ceita, respectively.
Through this agreement, EMIRATES will help in the construction and development of a new TAAG, which is intended to be a strong national and international aviation company.
The Ministry of Transport clarifies, in the statement, that TAAG will continue to be an Angolan company, used and operated mainly by Angolans.
EMIRATES is one of the world leaders in commercial aviation, headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. In turn, TAAG is the flag airline of the Republic of Angola.
