The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, who was speaking at the end of a tourist itinerary that took place, from the 18th to the 22nd of this month, in the municipalities of Cuangar, Calai, Dirico and Rivungo, guaranteed that, despite these locations hosting major battles during the conflict armed forces that ravaged the country, investors can rest assured that there will not be any mine incidents, because the Angolan Executive carried out demining work on time and very well in the areas of greatest tourist attraction.


José Martins said that the trip made with potential national and foreign investors and tourists to the main tourist sites in the municipalities of Cuangar, Calai, Dirico and Rivungo, on a route of around 1,200 kilometers from the city of Menongue to Bico de Angola, mainly in trails, it is proof that these locations offer security for any investment, because there have been no mine incidents.


The official recalled that with the great interest in the development of the Angolan region of Okavango, the Executive disbursed 60 million dollars to the NGO The Halo Trust, in 2020, for the demining process, for five years, in the areas affected by the Okavango/Zambezi project. , with greater emphasis on the municipalities of Cuito Cuanavale, Dirico, Mavinga and Rivungo.


José Martins highlighted that it is in the province of Cuando Cubango where two of the country's largest national parks are located, Mavinga, with an area of ​​46,072 square kilometers, and Luengue-Luiana, with 22,610 square kilometers, which have a rich diversity of fauna and forest resources.


"The investment in projects in the main tourist attraction areas in these two national parks, with emphasis on the rehabilitation of roads and the construction of border posts, lodges, resorts and other catering services, will allow the province to receive, annually, thousands of national and foreign tourists, whose destination will be, above all, the Angolan region of Okavango”, he said.
According to José Martins, the arrival of these tourists to the province is also a driving force for the collection of revenue for the State coffers.


The official said that it is in view of this expectation that the Angolan Executive has been ensuring that more areas of land are demined throughout the Okavango region, in Cuando Cubango.
The governor added that to speed up the demining process, teams from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the Border Guard Police (PGF) were incorporated into this mission, which are also engaged in freeing many minefields, in order to facilitate the development of tourism and agribusiness projects in the region.


José Martins also recalled that, for this reason, last year work was launched to clean and check the mined areas, with a view to allowing the rehabilitation of the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga/Rivungo roads, a route of around 700 kilometers.
