Caves originate from a series of geological processes that may involve a combination of chemical, tectonic, biological and atmospheric transformations. Due to the unique environmental conditions of caves, this ecosystem has a fauna specialized for living in dark environments without native vegetation.

Besides its scientific importance, cave exploration plays a major role in adventure tourism (or ecotourism). Therefore, we present some of the caves in Angola:

Zau Evua Cave (M'banza Congo)
This cave is located 68 km from M'Banza Kongo and 150 km beyond N'Zeto, on the road connecting these two cities. A huge rocky outcrop, unusual in this region, provides the first indication of the cave's location. The site is clearly signposted and very easy to access. To visit the caves, it's best to go to the nearby village and speak with the Chief, António Garcia, known as "Curva, curva, não! Linha reta!" (Curve, curve, no! Straight line!) After making contact, we met a friendly and affable man who dressed up to accompany us on this visit. Along the way, he explained that Zau Evua, in the local language, Kikongo, means Nine Elephants. He also added that these caves are one of the seven wonders of Angola, that he has appeared in several books, films, and other stories...

Cabo Ledo Cave (Luanda)
On National Road 100, which connects the province of Luanda to the southern part of the country, specifically in the commune of Cabo Ledo, there is a cave located 7 km away from Dona Teo Resort. The cave is usually visited by resort guests. For lovers of the works of Mother Nature, it is undoubtedly a place to visit. Check out the photos.

Nzenzo Caves (Uíge)
The Nzenzo Caves are a recently discovered site. Their pristine and completely preserved beauty was discovered by the Provincial Government of Uíge, through the Provincial Directorate of Hotels and Tourism. The Turi-Uíge project has been underway, with activities aimed at discovering, surveying, and exploiting existing tourist sites, which could boost the Nzenzo Caves' tourism sector. They are known in the local language as 'Ntadi dya Nzenzo,' which means Tap Rock.

Kabala Caves (Uíge)
The caves, discovered almost a century ago, served as a castle during the Angolan armed conflict and in 1961 as a refuge for thousands of people during the Portuguese colonial war, said the Seculo of the Cabala village, Mendes Jacinto. The Soba also said that this historic site is visited by many tourists and students; more than a thousand people pass through each month to observe the cave paintings and the various rooms and resting places within the rock.

Sassa Caves (Kwanza Sul)
The Sassa Caves are located approximately 3 km east of the city of Sumbe, in the province of Kwanza Sul. They feature coral that forms stalactites and stalagmites, with unique specimens in the world. It is considered a site of historical interest, having been caves where ancestors fled from paying taxes.

ONDIMBA (Humpata) Caves
Located in the municipality of Humpata, in the Tchivinguiro region. The word "Ondimba" in the Nyaneka national language means a cleft in a limestone mountain, open crevices topped by a hill. For a long time, it was thought that there was a great treasure there, which seems to be nothing more than a treasure of hope. These stories circulated during a period of great Portuguese settlement. They conducted various surveys in the region, and with it, the desire to find minerals. At the entrance to the cave, only water flows from a calm spring located at the bottom.
