Soberano Tchokwe apela resgate da identidade cultural

Dundo - The king of the Lunda people, Mwene Muatxissengue Wa-tembo, called today, Monday, the traditional authorities in Lunda Norte, to rescue the Tchokwe cultural identity, promoting activities that exalt the local folklore, as in the past.

The sovereign, who has been on a working visit to the province of Lunda Norte since Saturday, said that it is essential that the precursors of Tchokwe folklore pass on the experience to young people to guarantee the continuation of the txianda, macopo, chombe dances, among others that “have been trivialized ”.

He defends an active work of the authorities of the three provinces of eastern Angola, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico, in the creation of houses of culture that enhance the Tchokwe tradition. He asked the sobas to work with the municipal administrations in reactivating the txotas (jangos), the main spaces for transmitting knowledge about the habits and customs of these people.

The king expressed his concern about the fact that some rituals of the tradition are in the process of extinction, such as mucanda and chikumbi, male and female initiation rites, which prepares the adolescent for adult life, appealing to the traditional authorities to rescue. He said that he will advocate with provincial governments, in order to expand cultural projects in governance programs, with emphasis on the construction of infrastructures that support the activity of the makers of Tchokwe folklore.
